Meeting notes for Oct 25, 2016

Attendees: Walt, Chris, Tobias, Nori, Jens, Leon, Stephane, Scott, Yannick, Kusakabe, Tanikawa, Phil, Anton, Matt, Jan-Simon

Agenda:

  • Tadao-san- issues found:
    • Qt amb plugin broken (recipe uses upstream amb vs. cogent version) Update 10/25. Speed for the IC is the last usage of AMB. Chris will talk to Yury about providing dummy speed data via CAN messages so we can drop AMB support completely for CES.
    • Package names/dependency-changes ALS2016 → als2016 (in PN) . Drop from call. Jira issue created (SPEC-252). Will be looked at after CES.
  • FOSDEM update
    • AGL stand applied for. Should hear back in early November.
    • Jeremiah announced that he is looking for automotive submissions for embedded dev room. CFP closing date is not set yet.
    • AGL AMM planning may interfere with FOSDEM. Still waiting for AMM date to be set.
  • Raspberry PI 3 - AGL now boots. Bluetooth and Wifi not tested yet. 7” touchscreen display not tested yet. Raspberry PI 2 not tested yet. Leon updated AGL to use krogoth now. Jira SPEC-270 still open against running the demo. Leon tested Bluetooth and created a wiki page for running Bluetooth.
  • Blowfish 2.0.3 close merge window Oct 31. Release by end of next week. Some CVEs from Yocto and Jose has a few fixes in flight. Jose noted a problem with tagging the 2.0.2 release. Will write Jira issue for Jan-Simon to fix the release tagging script.

    • Jira Spec-265. Fix depends on the Qt version. Last week we discussed switching to Qt 5.7. Walt is pushing to the Steering Committee to get their sign off.
  • Stephane suggested moving the HVAC plugin for AMB from the IoT.bzh github repo to an AGL repo. Will be this week. Eventually AMB will be deprecated anyway but we need it at least through CC. Completed. Gerrit 6799
  • Leon and Ronan reported having problems with getting Porter boards up and running with new boards and latest builds. Working through on mail list.
  • Merged gerrit 6875 to point to the latest Renesas graphics driver blob. Needs to be cherry picked to BB 2.0.3 as well. Background - Renesas only has the latest version of the their driver on their site, but we do not have the ability to redistribute the older version so the scripts must be updated to point to the newest version.
  • Yocto 2.2 discussion. Walt checking with TI, NXP, and Qualcomm. Dominig says Intel ready to go. Porter board has new issue with Weston (not seen on 2.1). Need to investigate moving to Weston to 1.11 for Porter since it is still on 1.9 (but the version for Jethro not Krogoth). In general we need to double check the wayland and weston recipes to make sure we are in sync with Yocto. Spec-211 should be used to document the arguments for switching to 2.2 versus keeping 2.1. Keeping krogoth (Yocto 2.1) for Charming Chinook. Sandbox created for morty (Yocto 2.2)

New Business:

    • Qt amb plugin broken (recipe uses upstream amb vs. cogent version) In progress
    • Package names/dependency-changes ALS2016 → als2016 (in PN) . Temporary patch merged, but root cause is unknown.
  • Stephane noted that the daily snapshot builds sometimes are missing one of the machines. For example, Aug 20 is missing the MinnowBoard build. We will follow up with Jan-Simon. Now resolved. https://download.automotivelinux.org/AGL/snapshots/master/latest/ has a folder per board and each board will have the latest snapshot that built properly. For example, today the QEMU build failed so the available snapshot is yesterdays. The parent directory has all of the daily snapshots available from the last two weeks.
7“ touchscreen display not tested yet. Raspberry PI 2 not tested yet. Jira SPEC-270 open against running the demo. Jan-Simon confirmed that wifi works using the command line. Leon believes that Bluetooth will work, but has not had a chance to test it.
  • Blowfish 2.0.2 to be released at the end of this week. Release made.
  • Blowfish 2.0.3 will be planned for end of October. Some CVEs from Yocto and Jose has a few fixes in flight.
  • Create wiki page for peripheral devices by board. (Walt) Leon sent examples of other wikis (GENIVI and elinux). Will be done today
  • Open issue with Weston not coming up the first time the board is booted. Seen on RPI 3 (Leon) and Porter (Jens). Workaround is a reboot. Leon looking into RPI 3. Jens can try an RTC workaround suggested by Stephane.
    • Update (04 Oct): Leon has not seen on RPI nor Jens on Porter since last week. Will keep this around for another week then close it.
    • Update (18 Oct): Close this issue. Not seen again.
  • Tanikawa reports that the ALS demo does not work with IVI shell on master, but does work using desktop shell. He will check the version compatibility of new Weston version with ivi shell this week to try to find root cause.
    • Jira Spec-265. Fix depends on the Qt version. Last week we discussed switching to Qt 5.7. Walt is pushing to the Steering Committee to get their sign off.
  • GPU acceleration for QEMU. Tanikawa showed it working last week. Need to update documentation on how to enable it. SPEC-295 created to track QEMU documentation.

New Business

Meeting notes for Oct 4, 2016

Attendees: Walt, Jan-Simon, Leon, Michael, Stephane, Tanikawa, Christian, Kusakabe, Jens, Anton, Yannick

Notes:

  • PulseAudio updates from v6 to v8. Our plug-ins failed to build. Yannick pushed to gerrit this morning (6699).
  • Tadao-san started checking - issues found:
    • Qt default platform plugins wrong (xcb), affects qml launch Done - patch merged
The four daily builds run in parallel. If a build fails it will not sync to the folder on the download server. Starting shortly, the patch submissions will trigger all of the individual board builds and all of them will have to pass prior Jenkins giving its +1 to a change. This should avoid the issue of a snapshot build failing since all variants will get built prior to merging.
  • FOSDEM update - Walt will apply for an AGL table this week to get the ball rolling. Stand was applied for. Should hear back in early November.
  • Raspberry PI 3 - AGL now boots. Bluetooth and Wifi not tested yet. 7” touchscreen display not tested yet. Raspberry PI 2 not tested yet. Jan-Simon suggests we standardize on RPI 3. Leon asked if anyone else has tried to boot RPI 3. Jan-Simon will try it this week with a snapshot build.
  • Blowfish 2.0.2 to be released at the end of this week. Currently building. Should be ready today.
  • Tanikawa reports that the ALS demo does not work with IVI shell on master, but does work using desktop shell. He will check the version compatibility of new Weston version with ivi shell this week to try to find root cause.
    • Jens found this commit for moving to krogoth where the issue is mentioned. Jan-Simon will create Jira issue for it. Tanibata and/or Tanikawa will look into this.
  • Tanikawa succeeded in enabling GPU acceleration with QEMU emulator, but it is buggy. See https://jira.automotivelinux.org/browse/SPEC-237 for details.
    • Adding GPU acceleration would require the developer to install a number of packages to their host. It would probably be useful if we added “QEMU Quick Start Guide” to describe the different options.
    • Tanikawa will split patches into DRM backend specific patches and GPU acceleration patches DRM backend patches were submitted yesterday (gerrit 6683).
    • Update Splash screen works with DRM backend, but not when both with hardware rendering. Will need to fix. Has to do with frame buffer usage when GPU is enabled.

New Business:

  • Will change next week's meeting to Friday during face to face meeting. Will use google hangout for the call.

    • Tanikawa will split patches into DRM backend specific patches and GPU acceleration patches
    • Enabling DRM backend results in splash screen not appearing. Will need to fix.

  • Stephane - Problem with no reviewers added to code being pushed to meta-agl-extras and meta-agl-devel. Walt will look at.

Meeting notes for Sept 13

Attendees: Anton, Bai, Fulup, Leon, Michael, Phil, Stephane, Tadao, Yuichi, Jan-Simon, Walt

Notes:

Old Business:

      • Qt default platform plugins wrong (xcb), affects qml launch
      • Qt amb plugin broken (recipe uses upstream amb vs. cogent version)
      • Package names/dependency-changes ALS2016 → als2016 (in PN) . → JIRA !
  • Stephane noted that the daily snapshot builds sometimes are missing one of the machines. For example, Aug 20 is missing the MinnowBoard build. We will follow up with Jan-Simon. On hold until new Jenkins infrastructure is running. Jan-Simon thinks it related to Jira issue SPEC-212
  • Jan-Simon noted that image creation fails if both netboot and OSTree are built in master as options. Need a Jira issue to be written. The problem was noted in comments for gerrit 6403. Phil and Anton looking into a solution. (Patches to be merged today)

  • Switch to Yocto 2.1. Jan-Simon and Stephane working on.
    • There was an issue with meta-renesas, build failed. Not yet working. Need to work on graphics and gstreamer. Looking at the upcoming GDP release build as a blueprint to a solution since they have already switched over to Yocto 2.1. This command will provide a preview of Jan-Simon's sandbox branch.
mkdir repo-krogoth ; cd repo-krogoth ; repo init -b sandbox/jsmoeller/krogoth -u \
https://gerrit.automotivelinux.org/gerrit/AGL/AGL-repo ; repo sync
  • Qt issues as well with switch to 5.6 Qt now works for QEMU builds. Had to move back a few revisions from the latest version of meta-qt5 as the latest is broken both for us and GDP.

Meeting notes for July 19

Attendees: Walt, Michael, Chris, Isogai, Jan-Simon

Notes:

  • BB Release
    • iDrive never worked for the ALS demo. Fix should be addressed as a patch to the BB release. Keyboard input is working in the demo, but the iDrive input did not. Isogai will ask the graphic team member at ADIT what the difference between the keyboard input and the uinput is. Christian and Yury can reconfigure the iDrive to be a standard keyboard. Need ADIT to confirm that no additional work is needed in Weston if they configure the iDrive to be a standard keyboard.

  • Microchip iDrive key mapping needs help with testing key presses getting to the Wayland apps. Yuri will push his code and test with a method suggested by Stephane. - Status unknown. Need to get in touch with Tanibata-san.
  • Reviewed https://gerrit.automotivelinux.org/gerrit/#/c/5993/ (Patch set 5) and Stephane showed his sandbox branch where he is adding meta-agl-extra layers for the AGL Application framework (/sandbox/sdesneux/aglextra).
    • Concern from Tanikawa that we should Yocto templates rather than a complex script to accomplish this
    • The configuration as defined in the configuration sample file is not human readable. Federico pointed out that we can use the bitbake show layers command after sourcing the script to show the layers that result from the script.
    • Others were of the opinion that we should go with what is proposed by Jan-Simon since the Yocto project is trying to figure out how to improve the standard tooling to account for multiple configurations and we will switch to that standard method once they figure it out.
    • Tanikawa will send his thoughts in a presentation before next week's call.

  • Use of staging tree and process for moving to mainline (review of document)

New:

  • Yury implemented key map for the idrive proposed by Tanikawa works for X11, but not for Wayland because X11 has the x_do_tool implemented. In Wayland this was disabled for security purposes so applications cannot send keyboards events to each other. Manuel suggested trying uinput as an alternative method for user space virtual keyboard. Christian may supply a kernel driver for the idrive if a user space alternative cannot be found.
