Meeting notes for December 15

Attendees: Walt, Agustin, Michael, Yury, Christian, Tanikawa, Risto, Stephane, Nuohan, Jens, Manuel, Fulup, Ito

The IRC log for the meeting can be found here https://irclogs.baserock.org/automotive/%23automotive.2015-12-15.log.html

Action Items from last meeting:

  • Christian, Tanikawa - Work out mechanism to back port the MOST USB driver to the AGL kernel. Link to Jira Issue
    • Being ported as an out of tree driver. Discussion of gerrit 4473 which adds source code to meta-agl. Decided that we want to keep meta-agl as purely a layer with recipes so we will move the source code to meta-agl-demo for the time being. Christian needs to rework the patch to put the code there instead, then resubmit.
  • Yury to remove K2L confidential banner from AMB plug in code. Link to gerrit review
    • Done
  • Walt to solve issue with Jens and Manuel assigning Jira issues.
    • Done
  • Walt to propose mechanism for defect assignment

Other Discussions:

  • Latest status from integration in Tokyo (Tanikawa)
    • HVAC - Fan control worked ok. Temp control did not. Looking at AMB as possible reason again due to having patches from Cogent's fork, but not all of the latest patches from 0.15. Action item for Ogawa-san to look into this.
    • Multimedia not working due to gstreamer issue(s)
      • It was pointed out that Renesas (Ogawa-san) pushed gstreamer and other multimedia changes to gerrit that have not been merged. Tanikawa-san will review those changes tomorrow and merge if they are ok.
    • Navigation works ok. Walt to have a call with Hitachi to discuss dmeo logistics.
  • Walt took an action item to set up a meeting on Thursday to discuss approaches to the Application Manager based on Tizen IVI experience.

Meeting notes for December 8

Attendees: Walt, Michael, Christian, Jens, Agustin, Manual, Fulup, Stephane,Tanikawa

The IRC log for the meeting can be found here https://irclogs.baserock.org/automotive/%23automotive.2015-12-08.log.html

Action Items from last meeting:

  • Christian, Tanikawa - Work out mechanism to back port the MOST USB driver to the AGL kernel. Link to Jira Issue
    • Work continues. Christian and Tanikawa discussed getting the change in as an out of tree patch and the problems that Chris has been having.

Other items:

  • Reviewed the backlog of open changes in gerrit that need reviews.
    • Yury's change to add the back end AMB code Change 4423 needs to have the K2L confidential banner removed and have a license applied.
  • Michael reported that Yury is having problems access the HVAC zones via AMB. Yury is using latest upstream AMB v.15. It turns out that AGL is using a Cogent fork of AMB 0.14 that has patches not included in 0.15 that may fix the zone issue. See https://github.com/otcshare/automotive-message-broker/network
  • Touch event problems that Nori reported and were seen Monday at the integration session in Japan. Problem seems to be that the events are getting to Weston, but not passed to QMLScene. Risto and Manuel worked some on this in the background during the call may have a fix for this. Change 4437
  • It was noted that Manuel and Jens tried assigning issues to themselves in Jira and failed. Walt will look into LDAP.
  • Discussed assignment of incoming issues in Jira. Walt will propose a process for next week.
  • Discussed schedule for getting to AA release. Plan is to close all issues by Dec 16 (next Wednesday).

Special meeting December 4

Attendees: Walt, Michael, Christian, Yury, Matthew, Aaron, Manuel, Jan-Simon

Agenda: Qml plug-ins and HVAC app

  • Yury adding his code to gerrit in DemoApps project.
  • Yury's changes require additional packages python-curses and CAN tools, and CAN subsystem in the kernel. Need to add these to the build in time for f2f meeting in Japan on Monday.
  • Jan-Simon will work on adding the missing packages in meta-renesas (will add to meta-agl later as a solution available to all boards).
  • We are assuming Tanikawa-san will have a laptop with the latest build on it at the workshop.

Special meeting December 2

Attendees: Walt, Michael, Christian, Yury, Risto, Alistair, Aaron, Matthew, Jan-Simon

Agenda: Qml plug-ins and HVAC app

  • Tried to figure out why Aaron does not get /opt in his build. We tried a few things in real-time. Aaron sent some files to Jan-Simon to review off-line.
  • Showed Mathew the sample plug-in developed by Tanikawa-san for showing vehicle speed on the dashboard.
  • Yury explained what he has done to hook up the backend from AMB to the board. Yury will put that code into gerrit ASAP so Mathew can see what was exposed to the application.
  • Plan a follow up call on Friday.

Action items from last meeting:

  • Ned - Add Automotive message broker to AGL build Jira Issue
    • Closed. Also Tanikawa-san updated AMB to 0.14 plus latest patches which provides QML plug-in support. AMB only using a sample plug-in so additional configuration is needed. Microchip will need to supply additional vehicle data. Tanikawa-san will post a sample plug later.
  • Walt, Jan-Simon, Stephane Walt to propose a mechanism for snapshot references that can be created by Jenkins and referred to in Jira Link to Jira Issue
  • Christian, Tanikawa - Work out mechanism to back port the MOST USB driver to the AGL kernel. Link to Jira Issue
    • In progress

Notes:

  • Nuohan having problems with uploading patches for JTA probably related to the size of the patches and the fact that they are binary instead of source. Walt and Jan-Simon will investigate with LF IT if this is a limitation of gerrit.
  • Nuohan looking to integrate JTA with Jenkins. Jan-Simon can support this, but needs to understand the requirements. Nuohan will send an email to the list.

Meeting notes for October 20

Attendees: Walt, Michael, Christian, Tanikawa, Stephane, Manuel, Mikhail, Jens, Ito

Action items from last meeting:

  • Ned - Add Automotive message broker to AGL build
    • Ned tried to use repo upload command which is not configured in gerrit. Discussed about whether we need to include it in the workflow and we decided against it. Walt followed up with email to Ned to get date since the demo apps depend on this component.
  • Walt - Create subteam review groups in gerrit for kernel, common libraries/OS, multimedia, and automotive subsystem
  • Walt, Jan-Simon, Stephane: Walt to propose a mechanism for snapshot references that can be created by Jenkins and referred to in Jira
    • Jan-Simon still on holiday until the end of this week. Walt will set up a call on Monday for the three of us.

Agenda:

  • Action item review
  • Reviewed a couple of topics in Michael's email about Microchip's contribution to the CES Demo work.
    • Question about how Christian can back port the MOST USB driver to the AGL kernel. Christian will send an email to Tanikawa on how to proceed since this is a new process for us. We need to add code for a feature that does not exist in the AGL kernel so where does that code belong?
    • Discussed whether AMB is the right solution for AGL. The plan is to move forward with it. Stephane brought up that there were build and security issues with AMB in the Tizen IVI build that probably need to be worked out.
  • Discussed whether we need a staging area (referring to Mikhail's email about adding gtest and responses from Tanikawa) Agreed that the plan proposed by Tanikawa will be used (i.e., use meta-ivi-common as the staging area for code being pulled in from elsewhere with meta-agl to be used for patches so all of the patches are in a single place.

Meeting notes for October 13

Attendees: Walt, Fulup, Manuel, Stephane, Tanikawa, Jens

The IRC log for the meeting can be found here https://irclogs.baserock.org/automotive/%23automotive.2015-10-13.log.html

Action items from last meeting:

  • Ned - Add Automotive message broker to AGL build
  • Walt - Create subteam review groups in gerrit for kernel, common libraries/OS, multimedia, and automotive subsystem
  • Jan-Simon - change Jenkins build image names per Tanikawa's package group patch

Agenda

  • Review action items and latest merges
  • SDK Status
  • Topics from Stephane Desneux's email
    • Topic 1 - Security layer integration: we are ready to push our work on security, which depends on meta-intel-iot-security. For this, creating a new subdir meta-agl/meta-agl-security would make sense.

Team debated putting the code under /AGL/meta-agl/recipes-security which does not currently exist versus creating a separate Yocto layer. In the end we chose to create a meta-agl-security so we can isolate the changes needed for security to recipes in that layer. It also allows us to make the layer optional for implementations that wish to use a different security mechanism.

  • Topic 2 - Demo 2016: we work for a demo of the project “Full Prototype IVI System (https://wiki.automotivelinux.org/project-proto-ivi-system) to be shown at CES 2016. Where does this work could be pushed:
    • meta-agl-demo main branch, if reviews are fast enough ?
    • meta-agl-demo in new specific branch 'demo2016' with push rights to bypass reviews if not enough reviewers and/or reactivity ?
    • a new meta-agl-demo2016 ?

There are is already a subdirectory for demo app in /AGL/DemoApps/<AppName>. Walt will create a new one for these apps. We can open up the ability to merge and bypass reviews for a particular demo app in gerrit if requested.

  • Topic 3 - Snapshots/versioning on AGL: what's the mechanism to open a bug on jira and reference a given “snapshot” Example: when systemd has been added to meta-agl, this broke network (DHCP) and corrupted the splash screen. What's the official mechanism to reference a snapshot ?

Action item: Walt will work with Stephane and Jan-Simon to propose a mechanism for snapshot references that can be created by Jenkins and referred to in Jira.
