Archived Dev Call Meeting Minutes from 2016
Meeting notes for Dec 27, 2016
Attendees: Walt, Jan-Simon, Michael, Scott, Tanikawa, Matt, Isogai, Leon, Jens, Mike Fodisch (EB)
CES Demo Status
Window Manager/ ivi-shell issue with Raspberry PI, Minnowboard, and QEMU. Blank screen after startup. Problem is not seen on Porter or Vayu. Tanikawa-san looking at with ADIT guys. SPEC-370 for RPI. SPEC-360 for Minnowboard. Race condition between home screen, window manager, and weston.
Update 12/27- Still an issue. Some Qt fixes (Gerrit 7873) Issue still seen with non-porter boards.
General Issues
Jira SPEC-378 - problems with audio from radio and multimedia play at same time if both are started. Isogai assigned. Ideally we will have a general solution with Audio manager policy rather than having to stop/start apps when they need to stop audio.
Jira SPEC-379 - AM/Tuner crashing when paused. Scott may have a fix.
Michael reporting that media player does not play next song if it is not in focus. This was on an older build (last week). Matt will try to reproduce.
Audio mixer - Michael announced that Matt is “really the man”. Matt will try to add the mixer to the home screen since it looks like there is room for an additional row.
3'rd Party Apps
SDL - Elektrobit - Progressing
Miracast - NTT Data MSE
In communication with Microchip about audio as well as rear seat video. Issue found at Microchip that should fix the rear seat video.
Meeting tomorrow internally to discuss whether they can release the binary application to AGL for distribution.
DAVINCI (DrimAES AGL Visual Launcher Innovation) - DrimAES
Instrument Cluster - Denso on Minnowboard Max - IC working on Minnowboard Max. Navi working on Porter board. Integration session set up for Tuesday with Denso and AisinAW.
Instrument Cluster - Cogent or Renesas on Porter - Same as above, but using plug-in from Cogent.
Microchip - Audio mixing, rear view camera, and RSE - working with Suzuki-san on camera application for front display. Need to get the gstreamer parameters to Suzuki-san to create the widget.

AGL stand applied for. Should hear back in early November.
Jeremiah announced that he is looking for automotive submissions for embedded dev room. CFP closing date is not set yet.
AGL AMM planning may interfere with FOSDEM. Still waiting for AMM date to be set.
Leon and Scott pointed out numerous issues with the wiki build instructions for the Porter board. Lengthy discussion ensued on the best way to maintain the documentation going forward. Best practice would be maintain the documentation as close to the code as possible in markdown then render the documentation in
HTML for users that are not git/md savvy. Currently we have a mix of wiki, pdf, and md in gerrit that is difficult to keep in sync and maintain.
Push into next week. Let Leon start on updating new documentation in md and update the wiki for the porter as a stop-gap measure.
Update 11/1 - Leon made significant progress in wrapping the documentation for RPI 3 and Porter so that they can be rendered in HTML5, pdf, md, or dokuwiki. Work was done using pandoc. Will be pulled into the AGL doc github and added to Jenkins to automatically update the documents for the snap shot builds.
CES Demo Status
Jan-Simon will create CES2017 demo apps project in gerrit. Done
Brainstorm with Phil about how to show SOTA in a CES environmwent
Scott looking into starting up the demo without requiring keyboard intervention for ease of use during the show.
Homescreen - Mentor/ Jens - Updated to work with binder for AGL App FW. To be pushed to gerrit today or tomorrow.
Media player with audio and video players - Konsulko looking at making some updates.
AM/FM tuner - Konsulko - App still disabled in the CES 2017 build (lingering issues with audio and QML since 2016 CES). Scott looking at fixing, but most likely not ready until December.

Jan-Simon will create CES2017 demo apps project in gerrit.
Brainstorm with Phil about how to show SOTA in a CES environmwent
RPI issues with display documented SPEC-270. Scott trying with the GEchic touch display which is not working at the moment. AGL now works with the 7“ RPI touch display.
Meeting notes for Oct 25, 2016
Attendees: Walt, Chris, Tobias, Nori, Jens, Leon, Stephane, Scott, Yannick, Kusakabe, Tanikawa, Phil, Anton, Matt, Jan-Simon
Agenda:
Tadao-san- issues found:
Qt amb plugin broken (recipe uses upstream amb vs. cogent version) Update 10/25. Speed for the IC is the last usage of AMB. Chris will talk to Yury about providing dummy speed data via CAN messages so we can drop AMB support completely for CES.
Package names/dependency-changes ALS2016 → als2016 (in PN) . Drop from call. Jira issue created (SPEC-252). Will be looked at after CES.
FOSDEM update
AGL stand applied for. Should hear back in early November.
Jeremiah announced that he is looking for automotive submissions for embedded dev room. CFP closing date is not set yet.
AGL AMM planning may interfere with FOSDEM. Still waiting for AMM date to be set.
Raspberry PI 3 - AGL now boots. Bluetooth and Wifi not tested yet. 7” touchscreen display not tested yet. Raspberry PI 2 not tested yet.
Leon updated AGL to use krogoth now. Jira SPEC-270 still open against running the demo. Leon tested Bluetooth and created a wiki page for running Bluetooth.
Merged gerrit 6875 to point to the latest Renesas graphics driver blob. Needs to be cherry picked to BB 2.0.3 as well. Background - Renesas only has the latest version of the their driver on their site, but we do not have the ability to redistribute the older version so the scripts must be updated to point to the newest version.
Yocto 2.2 discussion. Walt checking with TI, NXP, and Qualcomm. Dominig says Intel ready to go. Porter board has new issue with Weston (not seen on 2.1). Need to investigate moving to Weston to 1.11 for Porter since it is still on 1.9 (but the version for Jethro not Krogoth). In general we need to double check the wayland and weston recipes to make sure we are in sync with Yocto. Spec-211 should be used to document the arguments for switching to 2.2 versus keeping 2.1. Keeping krogoth (Yocto 2.1) for Charming Chinook. Sandbox created for morty (Yocto 2.2)

Jan-Simon confirmed that wifi works using the command line. Leon believes that Bluetooth will work, but has not had a chance to test it.
Blowfish 2.0.2 to be released at the end of this week. Release made.
Blowfish 2.0.3 will be planned for end of October. Some CVEs from Yocto and Jose has a few fixes in flight.
Create wiki page for peripheral devices by board. (Walt) Leon sent examples of other wikis (GENIVI and elinux). Will be done today
Open issue with Weston not coming up the first time the board is booted. Seen on RPI 3 (Leon) and Porter (Jens). Workaround is a reboot. Leon looking into RPI 3. Jens can try an RTC workaround suggested by Stephane.
New Business
Stephane suggested moving the HVAC plugin for AMB from the IoT.bzh github repo to an AGL repo. Will be this week. Eventually AMB will be deprecated anyway but we need it at least through CC.
Leon and Ronan reported having problems with getting Porter boards up and running with new boards and latest builds. Working through on mail list.
Yocto 2.2 discussion. Walt checking with TI, NXP, and Qualcomm. Dominig says Intel ready to go. Porter board has new issue with Weston (not seen on 2.1). Meeting notes for Oct 4, 2016
Attendees: Walt, Jan-Simon, Leon, Michael, Stephane, Tanikawa, Christian, Kusakabe, Jens, Anton, Yannick
Notes:
PulseAudio updates from v6 to v8. Our plug-ins failed to build. Yannick pushed to gerrit this morning (6699).
Tadao-san started checking - issues found:
Qt default platform plugins wrong (xcb), affects qml launch Done - patch merged
Qt amb plugin broken (recipe uses upstream amb vs. cogent version) In progress
Package names/dependency-changes ALS2016 → als2016 (in PN) . Temporary patch merged, but root cause is unknown.
Stephane noted that the daily snapshot builds sometimes are missing one of the machines. For example, Aug 20 is missing the MinnowBoard build. We will follow up with Jan-Simon. The four daily builds run in parallel. If a build fails it will not sync to the folder on the download server. Starting shortly, the patch submissions will trigger all of the individual board builds and all of them will have to pass prior Jenkins giving its +1 to a change. This should avoid the issue of a snapshot build failing since all variants will get built prior to merging.
FOSDEM update - Walt will apply for an AGL table this week to get the ball rolling. Stand was applied for. Should hear back in early November.
Raspberry PI 3 - AGL now boots. Bluetooth and Wifi not tested yet. 7” touchscreen display not tested yet. Raspberry PI 2 not tested yet. Jan-Simon suggests we standardize on RPI 3. Leon asked if anyone else has tried to boot RPI 3. Jan-Simon will try it this week with a snapshot build.
Blowfish 2.0.2 to be released at the end of this week. Currently building. Should be ready today.
Tanikawa reports that the ALS demo does not work with IVI shell on master, but does work using desktop shell. He will check the version compatibility of new Weston version with ivi shell this week to try to find root cause.
Jens found this commit for moving to krogoth where the issue is mentioned. Jan-Simon will create Jira issue for it. Tanibata and/or Tanikawa will look into this.
-
Adding GPU acceleration would require the developer to install a number of packages to their host. It would probably be useful if we added “QEMU Quick Start Guide” to describe the different options.
Tanikawa will split patches into DRM backend specific patches and GPU acceleration patches DRM backend patches were submitted yesterday (gerrit 6683).
Update Splash screen works with DRM backend, but not when both with hardware rendering. Will need to fix. Has to do with frame buffer usage when GPU is enabled.

Yury still looking at iDrive issue per
Isogai's email , but problems with BB release are preventing it. May have to wait to after the first point release so he can be assured that the fix is correct.
Meeting notes for July 19
Attendees: Walt, Michael, Chris, Isogai, Jan-Simon
Notes:
BB Release
iDrive never worked for the ALS demo. Fix should be addressed as a patch to the BB release. Keyboard input is working in the demo, but the iDrive input did not. Isogai will ask the graphic team member at ADIT what the difference between the keyboard input and the uinput is. Christian and Yury can reconfigure the iDrive to be a standard keyboard. Need ADIT to confirm that no additional work is needed in Weston if they configure the iDrive to be a standard keyboard.
BB Release branches created for the metadata layers. Source repos will be done end of the day today.
Combo layers in progress
Builds will be kicked off tonight - should be ready tomorrow.
Walt will update AGL web site tomorrow with new download links and BB information
Gerrit
6059 - need final changes from Suzuki-san before we can merge it into BB since this reflects the UI that was presented at ALS.
6109 - will not merge for BB since the tracks are not provided in the build.
6023 - will be abandoned since an alternate solution was found (see 6075)

ALS Demo Plan
July 5th: Feature fix (merge window closed)
July 5th-7th: Final (new features) implementation, if there is any

Jan-Simon, Stephane:
SPEC-183 Building sandbox branches in Jenkins
Jan-Simon: Create combo layer for BB release. Release planning for BB.
ALS Demo updates and F2F results
Boundary Devices delivery date issue - Walt cancelled the order with Boundary Devices
Audio Routing plug-in - Manuel on holiday this week. Isogai-san working on integrating the plug-in in his absence. We really need a way to demonstrate preemptive audio without the Navi app or telephony present.
Microchip iDrive key mapping needs help with testing key presses getting to the Wayland apps. Yuri will push his code and test with a method suggested by Stephane. - Status unknown. Need to get in touch with Tanibata-san.
-
Concern from Tanikawa that we should Yocto templates rather than a complex script to accomplish this
The configuration as defined in the
configuration sample file is not human readable. Federico pointed out that we can use the bitbake show layers command after sourcing the script to show the layers that result from the script.
Others were of the opinion that we should go with what is proposed by Jan-Simon since the Yocto project is trying to figure out how to improve the standard tooling to account for multiple configurations and we will switch to that standard method once they figure it out.
Tanikawa will send his thoughts in a presentation before next week's call.

Boundary Devices delivery date issue
Microchip will have MOST audio kits available for purchase starting June 20 through an order link.
Broken link on Renesas web site for downloading driver is being fixed at Renesas. Meanwhile, Yuri was able to get the latest code from Stephen Lawrence but this was from Dec 2015 and we have been using the Nov 2015 version. Stephane will get the Nov version to Yuri. Now fixed
Audio routing ramp up/down working for Manuel. Reviewed during Graphics and UI EG Call. Will be ready later this week for the workshop.
Web browser updates from Igalia work for Minnow but not porter No update
Manuel will post the
spec for the AM/FM dongle to the demo wiki page.
Done
AM/FM integration with media player (audio management) on-going. On-going.
Microchip on track with the updates from last week. Need to request source projects in Jira.
JTA Update
Tests should be run and results posted for Porter board before ALS (preferably July 1) so we can include the results in the release package. Minnowboard probably not avaiable before AMM in September.
Stephane asked about documentation. Can be found at AGL-JTA/readme
Use of staging tree and process for moving to mainline (review of document)
New:
Yury implemented key map for the idrive proposed by Tanikawa works for X11, but not for Wayland because X11 has the x_do_tool implemented. In Wayland this was disabled for security purposes so applications cannot send keyboards events to each other. Manuel suggested trying
uinput as an alternative method for user space virtual keyboard. Christian may supply a kernel driver for the idrive if a user space alternative cannot be found.

Defer further discussion to next week's f2f meeting
Jan-Simon pointed out that there is a similar discussion going on in the OE mailing list
Jan-Simon noted we should simplify our templates because there are two places that need to be changed when adding something new.
Tanikawa - Combine to single template

Jan-Simon - Status of gerrit plug-in to automatically assign repository owners to gerrit reviews when they are created.
Stephane - add meta-security-isafw as a test to see the impact on builds.
Pushed to gerrit. See
https://gerrit.automotivelinux.org/gerrit/#/c/5613/ Jan-Simon will add it to the snapshot builds and keep the log files as text files. Still need a process/plan for dealing with the output. Defer to CIAT team for further recommendations.
-
Reviewed presentation from Tanikawa on the differences between how we would set up the repos using Combo, Repo, and git submodules. General agreement that Combo might be useful for releases but not for day to day development. Jan-Simon will file two issues in Jira regarding adding local derivations to repo and another to combine/simplify the manifest set up.

-
2) Jira defect triage
-
What is the purpose of the request? Is it to incorporate the GENIVI components or use the GENIVI layer (meta-ivi).
Is this just to meet GENIVI compliance in the sense that the components build, but may not get used in “mainline” AGL?
Can Andres get the code into a staging repo so we can look at what he intends to do then join the dev meeting to discuss?
3) Any other business.

Walt announced that a source code container project has been created in gerrit (/src). This will be used for projects where AGL is the upstream source repository and for source code that is larger than a typical patch.
Submit a Jira ticket and assign it to Walt or Jan-Simon to have a project created in the /src container.
Stephane noted that we should have a separate source container for “unofficial” or contributed code that developers are working on, but are not part of the official AGL build.
Review open Jira issues. Walt took an action item to open viewing of Jira issues up to unregistered users.

Upgrade to Yocto 2.0 Jethro
Other items:
Walt noted that next week's meeting will be canceled due to travel to Japan.
Support for Intel Minnowboard Max and NXP (formerly Freescale) Wandboard added as part of the Yocto upgrade. Snapshot builds for the Minnowboard Max should be available after Wednesday. Wandboard snapshots builds will take a few extra days.
Reviewed open Jira issues from LTP. Basic problem is that the target build does not enable a number of commands needed to run the tests. (see
SPEC-83 as an example. Tanikawa proposing a solution to add the commands to a special build that will be installed in the rootfs for test only.
Discussed
Jira Issue SPEC-92 and the
email that Stephane sent in reply to Walt's request. See
this reply as well. Walt will create use cases for gerrit/ git usage based on the emails and discussion to see if we cover all of the requirements with any proposed solutions. Michael brought up that Microchip is confused about where to put the MOST code and future code they plan to contribute to AGL.
